Dr Kaweh Mansouri, Swiss Medical Association Specialist in Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Surgery, was interviewed by the magazine The Ophthalmologist for its January/February 2022 edition.
In the interview, the glaucoma specialist explains how the treatment and care of glaucoma patients has changed over the pandemic:
‘Unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic has also had an adverse effect on the treatment of ophthalmic conditions. Certain innovations, like implanted sensors that measure intraocular pressure, have been used as substitutes for face-to-face appointments during periods of self-isolation. That's one positive thing we can say about the pandemic: it has highlighted the importance of research and innovation in medicine, one of our areas of expertise at the Swiss Visio Glaucoma Research Centre.
